Pimpilowes
The art of stitching creates connections to people, places, and traditions throughout history and across the world. Stitching belongs to everyone – practical or creative, and pins and needles are essential items for anyone who stitches, they are the tools, in textile art, that bring our artistic aspirations to life. We keep these tools close by – and therefore the humble pincushion becomes an important part of our kit. Pincushions, pimpilowes, pin-poppets – call them what you like – we, as stitchers, would be lost without them – or our pins would be. My aim is to transform these humble objects into beautiful, ornamental representations of the simple pincushion, to pay homage to these small objects. Using only materials from my stash, they also represent my journey of nostalgia and memories – of childhood, my mother, and the significance of stitching.
